The first verse of ' jungle ' begins with stating a real location – Hackney in London. This conjures images in peoples mind if they have an knowledge of the area – its not a good one. The line ' where I think somebody's been playing Jumanji. ' this line implies the area is in a state of dissaray and chaos. In the film ' Jumanji ' animals are let loose on the streets and various other events destroy the area the characters are living in. The reference to this along with the next line ' A Manor where man are like animals ' suggests the people are more like animals than people. Also the use of the word manor, in conjunction with jungle suggests the people of London / Hackney consider the area to be their property, and one entity they control. Constant references to animals throughout the verse are present ' Cats with claws that'll stab a yout' ' and 'London aint cool to cruise through where the hunters pray' . This couples with the title and reference to ' the jungle' in the chorus. This represents the people of Hackney being wild, feral and dangerous animals. ' got kids with sticks and knifes here.' starts the second verse. This is a reference to real life knife crime and dangerous kids on the street. The next line may be addressing a serious contriversial issue of crime within London. ' it's just life here, life the way we know from young the way we're shown. ' This is to give people and idea from outside of london what life is like, even from a young age in a place like London. ' violence is the only way you settle things, everyday is hating.. ' once again this gives an insight into the painful truth of large inner cities.
